Springfield, Mass. - After trailing for nearly the entire game, the Marist College Red Foxes came back from a 13-point deficit to the tie the game, and scored the final 16 points in overtime to narrowly escape the fifth-seeded Niagara University Purple Eagles 68-54 in MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship semifinal action at the MassMutual Center in Springfield Mass.
Marist had four players finish in double-figures, led by Kelsey Beynnon’s game-high 23 points and 16 rebounds. Niagara also had four score in double-digits, with Lauren Gatto netting 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the Purple Eagles.
Marist will try to earn its seventh-consecutive MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship and eighth overall against the second-seeded Fairfield University Stags at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, March 5 live on ESPNU. Marist is 1-0 against Fairfield in the title game and also swept the 2011-12 regular season series against the Stags.
