SPRINGFIELD – These are heady days for the Loyola (Md.) men’s basketball team.
With the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament right around the corner, the Greyhounds are experiencing their best season since the post-World War II era.
Last weekend’s 69-56 win over Boston University in the Sears Bracketbuster competition gave the Greyhounds their first 20-win season since becoming a Division I program 30 years ago. It is also their most wins in a season since Emil “Lefty” Reitz won a school-record 25 games in 1948-49.
But the seeds of this year’s success, says eighth-year coach Jimmy Patsos, were sown last January when the Greyhounds renewed their commitment to winning and each other.
